Understanding the Cox to Yahoo Transition

If you have a cox.net email address, you must change some settings

if you want to still use that email address.

Hope the following will help.

What is happening?

Cox cable has decided to no longer have email on their servers.  They have sold that part of the business to Yahoo, who will now house all of your emails on Yahoo.com servers.  This is not such a bad thing.  There are some advantages.

Your cox.net email address will still work, but you must tell your phone, ipad and computers, etc...how to get the email from yahoo.com.

Your previous account settings will no longer work in the near future.

What can I do?

You have a few options:

1. Transition your devices to getting your mail from yahoo.

2. Create and use a different email address and inform all of your contacts to not use the cox.net email anymore.

3. Forget about it and stop reading any emails.  (Definitely no recommended.)

If you want to keep your cox.net email address, follow these steps:

Step 1:

Log into Yahoo mail.  Your username is your cox email address and password for that email.  Follow the prompts, including accepting terms, until it says, "welcome to yahoo mail. " At that point you will see all of the email you had on the cox servers.

If you choose, you can continue to use the webpage, yahoo.com,   to read and send email.  Those emails  will have the cox.net email address, even though they are on the yahoo servers.

If you are using a phone or ipad, you can download the yahoo mail app and  use that.

Step 2:

If you read your email through a mail program, you will need to go to settings on each of your devices where you receive email.  In settings, find your mail/internet accounts.  Choose to add an account and add a Yahoo account.  Your username is your cox email address and the password is the password for that email account.  Use this link for help with  this on your iPhone or iPad.

After you create this account, your device will be able to get all of your cox email,  just as it has been doing all along.  NOTE:  At this time, imacs and macbooks mail applications do not work after adding the yahoo account.  Hopefully, they will figure this out in the next few days.  In the meantime, you will need to use your phone, ipad, PC or yahoo.com for email.

Update:  There is a work-around (complicated) at this time to get your imac or macbook working.  You can try it, or you can wait for Yahoo to fix the problem with adding a yahoo account.  Click here for instructions.
